How to Choose a BT30 ATC Spindle Motor
BT30 classification and typical use
BT30 spindles use a 7:24 taper interface suited for medium to heavy-duty CNC routers, aluminium plate machining, volume woodworking, and light machining center retrofits. Compared with ISO30, BT30 adds a pull stud for automatic tool change and higher-speed capability.
100 mm body diameter
100 mm body spindles support 3.0 kW to 3.5 kW power ratings. They are lighter and a good match for Z-axis assemblies with moderate load, higher RPM applications, wood, plastics, aluminium composite panels, and light aluminium profiling.
125 mm body diameter
125 mm body spindles support 5.5 kW to 7.5 kW. The larger body provides higher rigidity and better heat dissipation for continuous aluminium cutting, deeper passes, and heavier tool loads.
Integration parameters to plan
- BT30 tool holder and pull stud: Confirm pull stud angle and tool magazine compatibility before commissioning.
- Pneumatic supply: Clean, dry compressed air for tool release and taper cleaning. Confirm pressure, flow, and FRL setup.
- Water cooling: Closed-loop chiller with adequate capacity for your duty cycle and ambient temperature.
- VFD and voltage: Match VFD rating to spindle power, voltage (220V or 380V), and control signal type.

Integration FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
What BT30 tool holder and pull stud should I prepare?
Use standard BT30 tool holders matched to the spindle drawbar and pull stud specification confirmed during quotation. Check taper cleanliness, pull stud angle, and tool magazine compatibility before commissioning.
Should I choose a 100 mm or 125 mm BT30 spindle body?
Choose 100 mm for lighter Z-axis assemblies and 3.0-3.5 kW applications. Choose 125 mm for 5.5-7.5 kW configurations where rigidity and continuous cutting load are more important.
What air and cooling setup does a BT30 ATC spindle need?
Plan clean, dry compressed air for tool release and taper cleaning, plus closed-loop water cooling for continuous high-speed operation. Confirm pressure, flow, chiller capacity, and sensor wiring before installation.
